GROUP SHOW

OPENING: November 23rd, 2023. TIME: 19.00

SELL OUT PERIOD: November 23rd 2023 – February 25th 2023

MELKEBUTIKKEN (The Corner Shop) is a group exhibition based on previous year’s Artist Supermarked. The concept will open in Oslo, in Sorgenfrigaten 16, consisting of a pop-up store within the gallery of SORGENFRI, of one-of-a-kind art pieces from up-and-coming and established artists at a bargain price. In the spirit of Claes Oldenburg’s The Store in New York in 1961, the pop-up will open free of norms, selling art like supermarked goods. The customer will be able to bring the art pieces home immediately, buying art as part of an everyday shopping experience. The space will be stripped down completely according to the simple aesthetics of a corner shop accompanied by signs showing you the price.

During the almost 3 months the show is on display, a wide range of works and ideas will be added weekly. The show will embrace a collection of artifacts relevant to our present time, history, and the future from both new talents and established names. Crossing between various media; sculpture, painting, textile, prototypes and sketches, all objects in the supermarket are unica. The goal is to give the visitors, access and possibility to invest in their own, the artist’s and our common future.

The name MELKEBUTIKKEN is a reformation of previous artist supermarkets within the SORGENFRI space. Inspired by earlier local shopping in Oslo, and the building’s own history, where a ‘melkebutikk’: a local corner shop, was located for more than 20 years, 50 years ago. A corner shop offers what is seen as everyday necessary; just the same, SORGENFRI will offer art and the zeitgeist.

MELKEBUTIKKEN will give customers easy access to original unique art by some of Norway's most interesting and influential creatives.

20% of all sales will be donated to NROWAC @norwegian.aid.committee for their work in Gaza.
